Ready to learn how to golf?

Golf is a sport that originated in Scotland, although some historians trace its origins to similar games played as far back as the 1st century. The goal of the sport is to hit your golf ball into each hole on the golf course in the lowest number of strokes. Most golf course have 9 or 18 holes, and each hole is assigned a certain number of strokes which it should take to hole your bar (termed par). Players use different types of clubs in hitting the golf ball and clubs mainly consist of four major categories. These are woods, hybrids, irons and putters. Each club is used depending on the kind of shot. Players are allowed to carry and use up to 14 different clubs in a game.

Types of shots

How To Golf With A Cart There are 5 common types of shots. The tee shot, fairway shot, bunker shot, putt shot, and the approach shot.  The tee shot is the opening shot. The golf ball is hit from outside the green (a finely cut grass) into the green. The fairway shot is used in constricted fairways or when approaching a green. The bunker is played when the ball is in a sand bunker or sand trap. The putt shot is played on and around the green.

The Approach shot is also called the feel shot. There are basically three types of approach shots. These are pitch, flop and chip. In the pitch shot, the ball is hit in a way that the ball flies high and rolls slightly as it hits the ground. A flop shot is a higher approach than the pitch where the ball stops as soon as it strikes the ground. It is usually used when there is an obstacle blocking the shot to the green. The chip shot on the other hand is a type of shot where the ball is hit in a low approach and rolls considerably on the green.

Par and Scoring

The winner is determined through the number of strokes made to reach the hole. The par is the required number of strokes for each hole. A player may reach the hole under par, over par, or at par. In a golf match or tournament, the player who has the least score in relation to par is declared the winner.
